DVD Movie Review - Joyride 2

Nicky Lynn Aycox, Kyle Schmid and Nick Zano star in the highly anticipated sequel to the hit teen horror film "Joyride. This time around director Louis Morneau puts 4 seemingly free spirited teenagers on a road trip to Las Vegas. You have your typical clich characters such as, the cool pretty boy, the annoying punk rock dude, the not so bright but cocky girl and the beautiful mature older sister. As the 4 journey on their road trip they sudden have car trouble leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere. Of course, no one cell phone is getting any reception and there is not a gas station or restaurant in site. As they travel along by foot, things are definitely not looking up for the teens until they discover an old looking, seemingly abandoned house.

The punk rocker decides to be the typical bad ass and breaks into the home without warning the others. After looking around the house, the teens then decide to check out the property of the home where they discovered an old barn with a pretty nice car stored inside. Feeling like they have no other option the 4 decide to borrow the car, just to get to the next town. Before they took it, the mature sister decides to leave a note for the owner of the vehicle leaving her phone number on it,.

Everything seemed to be getting back on track for the teens, until they decided to grab something to eat at a truck stop in their brand new vehicle. Things started going all down hill when one of the teens didn't return from the bathroom, while the other 3 waited worryingly at the table. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. After about a few minutes of one of the kids missing, the cell phone of the girl who left her number at the barn rings. What they are about to find out is that, the car that they took was the car of the psycho killer trucker that goes by the name of Rusty Nail, and he has their friend who is being held for ransom, if you will.

Pros

The movie really steps up from the first one. It gets into the plot of the movie rather quickly leaving no real times for a bathroom break without missing some sort of action. I like the fact that the movie kept the same theme of the first one making it very easy to identify that it is indeed a sequel. You can easily tell that the makers of this film was aware that more gore is what's in these days, because they added a lot more of it compared to the first film. The movie has great energy and the cast of actors in the movie does a great job.

Cons

Just like the first Joyride, this film was very unrealistic. As a matter of fact I would say the sequel is even more far fetched as the original. In my opinion, Rusty Nail is a little to unstoppable and skillful with his planning. There were several scenes that just didn't add up for me, especially some near the end of the movie.

Conclusion

When it is all said and done, Joyride 2 does not disappoint those that are true fans of the first Joyride. Even though it was very unrealistic and very clich, it was very entertaining and worth watching, so I give it a strong 3 out of 5
