Understanding the Simple Differences Between DVD+R and DVD-R Technologies

A few million people have at least a few homemade video DVDs and the majority of the entire U.S. population or world has a few homemade CDs. They may have made them or received them from friends. But what are your choices and which do you need? Very few individuals ever think about the DVD-R format verses the DVD+R format and how each could benefit the end user. They just want it to work. Which should you choose?

The similarities of each are that they are compatible with the majority of all home DVD video players. The older the DVD player means that chances are the media won't be fully compatible, although this has largely become a concern of the past.

Similar to the opposing high definition standards fight, there are two differing formats of blank DVD media. The two consortiums that exist today are the DVD+RW Alliance and the DVD Forum. The DVD+RW Alliance support the DVD +R/RW format while the DVD Forum advocates the DVD -R/RW format. The standards set forth by these two organizations have created many differences, but the most important ones should be examined when deciding which format to use.

The discs themselves are essentially identical to each other. The drives are what create the incompatibility. The biggest difference is that there are a myriad of microscopic wobbles created by the drive of the DVD+R/RW discs. This wobble is detected by the recording/playback drive to greatly increase the timing accuracy of storing and locating the information that is stored on the disc itself. DVD-R/RW drives also create this wobble, but at a much lower frequency. This essentially means that DVD+R/RW discs can store and retrieve data with more precise timing and accuracy.

Another difference that should be considered is the importance of error detection. DVD+R/RW drives utilize error correction at a much higher rate of 100% of all data and storage space on the physical disc. The error correction with regard to DVD-R/RW drives is not as effective and can result in more errors allowing for the creation of a shiny new coaster.

The other key difference between the two formats is regarding multi-sessions. While both formats support multi-session writing, the total amount of storage space on DVD-R/RW discs will be sacrificed and dwindle the more multi-session writing is used. When the user writes any amount of data onto a DVD-R/RW disc and then ends the session, the drive needs to "finalize" that session in order for any other drive or video DVD player to be able to read that data. This finalizing of each session can take up to 18 MB. Without realizing it, you can be cheating yourself out of valuable storage space. DVD+R/RW also needs to "finalize" its multi-sessions, but only requires 2 MB per session. Very quickly one can see that 4.7 GB disc end up being a 3.9 GB disc.

The most common difference, and the one most people use to decide which format to use, is cost. DVD-R/RW media is much cheaper than the competing DVD+R/RW media. This is partially due to differing brand names and the type of metallic surfacing and sealing that is used on each disc. There are differences and these can play a role in quality. Generic blank media may suffice for some; however, the idiom, "You get what you pay for" can accurately be assigned to this type of product.

With these key differences outlined above, one can begin to see why DVD+R/RW media may be a better choice. The end quality of the product you wish to create is what should guide you to your choice. For basic everyday temporary storage, an office may decide on the cheaper alternative, but for the self-authoring video hobbyist, the choice is clear.

A Java Developer's Guide to Web Hosting

You make a living writing enterprise java applications, and you would like to work on your own projects for fun or profit, you would like to create your own web site or you would like to have a place to host your open source project. You look around for hosting providers, and all you see is PHP and PERL support, with very few hosting companies supporting Java, what to do?

Although the number of hosting companies supporting Java is increasing, support varies from nearly non-existent to companies that are deeply committed to their Java support.

There are three types of hosting plans available:

  • Shared hosting
  • Virtual Private Server hosting
  • Dedicated Server hosting

With a shared hosting plans, several web sites are hosted on the same server, sharing the server's resources and using the same IP address. Virtual Private Server (VPS) plans consist of a server that is split into multiple virtual servers, each virtual server has it's own IP address, some companies call these types of plans Virtual Dedicated Servers. Dedicated servers are the most expensive type of plan, each dedicated server customer gets their own physical server, nice to have, but prohibitively expensive for personal web sites and small operations.

At Ensode.net, we recommend that you find a hosting company that provides Virtual Private Server (VPS) support (some hosting companies call it Virtual Dedicated Server), since they provide a nice balance between price and control. A VPS server is like having your own server, usually with root access, which gives you the freedom to install any application you might need, including version control systems like Subversion or CVS, WebDAV, or anything else you might need. With a VPS plan you will most likely get your own IP address, and your server will be not only your web server, but also your mail and database server.

VPS hosting plans tend to be somewhat more expensive than shared hosting plans, but it is our belief that they are worth the extra cost since they provide much more control and flexibility. If you are a Java developer, chances are you are used to "getting your hands dirty", and working on a server using good old Unix commands. Shared hosting plans tend to have "user friendly" (dumbed down?) interfaces, which might simplify administration, but can also severely limit what you are able to do, for example, let's say a shared hosting company gives you 300 megabytes of disk space to host your web site, and an additional 300 megabytes for your email, if your web site takes 5 megabytes of space, but your email server is getting full, there is no way to allocate more space to store emails and reduce the allocation of web space. In addition to leaving you unable to reallocate resources as needed, you can also forget about installing any applications on your server. Another disadvantage of shared hosting plans is that an IP address is shared among several customers, which could have potential problems. For example, if one of the customers uses their mail server for bulk emailing, the IP address of that mail server may be banned from several systems, in a shared hosting plan environment, this would affect all the customers using the same server.

With few exceptions, shared hosting plans that support Java do so through a shared JVM, which means that you have no way of starting or stopping the JVM, and the same JVM is used to run the Java applications of all the hosting company's clients on the server. With a VPS plan, since you have access to your own (virtual) server, it is a given that you get full control over the JVM.

You can use your favorite search engine to find companies that offer VPS plans. Good luck and may your site become immensely popular.

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Port Forwarding

One thing that I love about all news windows products is the remote desktop features. I previously used PCAnywhere but I find that remote desktop is now almost as good, would like to see a file transfer like PCAnywhere has, but remote desktop is free so that is a plus for it.

One of the tasks that I face with my network setup is forwarding ports through my router. There are two issues that I came across when dealing with the RDP forwarding. The first was what is the port number of RDP. With a quick search on Google I found that the standard RDP port is 3389.

Now that you have the port number you can simply go into your router and forward that port through and after enabling your remote desktop feature it will work from outside your network as long as you either know your IP address or have a dynamic dns service like I use. To enable remote desktop in Windows XP and Windows 2003 go to the start menu, find the my computer icon and right click on it. Select the properties option in the drop down list and then click on the remote tag in the window that appears. There you will see the two check boxes, check the second box, and then click on the remote user button. Make sure that the users you want to have access are in the list and then click ok until you have exitted all of the windows. RDP is now enabled on your machine.

So this simple setup would have worked for my network but the issue then became I have several servers that I want access to along with my desktop. Now I could just remote to my desktop and then remote to the other machines from there since they are all on the local network. This would create a lot of data that needed to be transferred though, with limited upstream speeds on your broadband connection you don't want this, and will cause performance issues with RDP. So I had two options, I could change the registry entry like was stated in the article. I will paste that fix here just in case that page has an issue at some point:

*****
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

You can use the Remote Desktop feature in Windows XP Professional to connect to your computer from another, remote computer. WARNING: The Remote Assistance feature in Windows XP may not work properly if you change the listening port. To change the port that Remote Desktop listens on:

Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

Locate the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControlTerminalServerWinStationsRDP-TcpPortNumber

On the Edit menu, click Modify, click Decimal, type the new port number, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.

NOTE: When you try to connect to this computer by using the Remote Desktop connection, you must type the new port.

Keywords: kbhowto kbnetwork KB306759

Technology: kbrdcMac100 kbrdcsearch kbrdcWin100 kbWinXPPro kbWinXPPro64bit kbWinXPProSearch kbWinXPSearch kbZNotKeyword

*****

The other option I had was to go into my router and specify another external port number and then point that port to the 3398 on the IP address of the machine I wanted to go to. I chose this second option as it was less time consuming and did the trick for me. One appealing thing about the ability to change the port number of RDP is security. If you leave the standard port number then anyone will know to check that port to see if you have Remote Desktop enabled and potentially compromise your network. Let me know if there are any issues with the registry fix though and if there are I will just remove it from this article.

Application For the Amazing Race

The Amazing Race is an American reality race program broadcast by CBS. Since its start in 2001 TAR has had twelve series and has been hugely successful. It has received seven Prime time Emmy Awards and has provided the United States with some wonderful viewing. Application for the Amazing Race is a complicated procedure and there are many considerations which are taken into account.

Each time must be made up of two members and to be eligible for application for the Amazing Race these two members must have a significant, and usually long term, relationship. There have been teams of spouses, siblings (including twins), business partners and almost every other coupling imaginable. There have even been two beauty queens who were past rivals. Although most couples must have had a relationship that has lasted for three years or more, exceptions have been made to this ruling in a few cases.

Application for the Amazing Race is made by application form which is available either from CBS or can be downloaded from the Amazing Race website. Not only must you complete the written form but you must also include a short video of up to three minutes. This video will be used by the producers to decide whether they are interested in meeting you at an interview and taking your application further. They are looking for people who come across well on film and have a character that will be suitable for the Amazing Race. If they feel that both members of the team have the right personality, looks and commitment, then they may ask you to join a team of finalists in one of several major cities in the United States.

When filling in your application for the Amazing Race, you will be ask to sign a contract to confirm your agreement to a number of points. One of these will be a background check. The show will have the right to carry out any background investigations that they feel necessary. This will be at their discretion. They will also want to know about any misdemeanor or felony that you may have been responsible for in your past (with the exception of minor traffic offences).

Another condition of your application for the Amazing Race will be that you sign a confidentiality contract. This will mean that you will not be able to talk to anyone regarding any issues concerning the recording of the show or any issues relating to the content of the shows. This will ensure the show being aired without the audience being aware of where the teams will be heading or indeed any other plans for the series. If you are considering applying for the Amazing Race, take plenty of time to complete the application form. You will find 8 pages of quite intense questions and do not forget that it is the way in which you answer these all important questions that will help decide whether or not you become a contestant on one of America's most popular game shows.

Rimage Everest 600 AutoPrinter Review

The Rimage Everest 600 CD printer is the 4th generation photo realistic thermal re-transfer printer manufactured by Rimage and was released in the 3rd quarter of 2008. The latest Rimage Everest 600 printer is fully automated, like the previous Everest III, with a 300-disc input capacity, PC and Macintosh OS X compatibility.

This review of the Rimage Everest 600 thermal DVD / CD printer is based on ten different criteria, on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 stars being the highest rating possible). We have run about 100,000 CDs and DVDs through 5 different Everest 600 printers over the past 4 months. Here are the results...

Price - The Rimage auto-Everest 600 has a MSRP of $9750, and a street price around $8500. The Everest 600 auto-printer is the most expensive printer I have used or tested, but the higher price may be justified depending on your requirements or needs. 1 star.

Speed - The Rimage Everest 600 printer will print approximately 65 discs/hour. The Everest 600 will output the same number of discs per hour no matter how light or heavy the print coverage on your CD or DVD. This is the case because of the 3 color panels of the CMY ribbon get used no matter what color your CDs or DVDs are. 65 discs per hour is pretty good for a full 100% print coverage, but a bit on slow if the artwork design is just a logo and a few lines of text. 3.5 Stars.

Bin Capacity - 400-disc capacity (300-disc input bin with the remaining bin used for output) . Like most other Rimage systems, the latest Everest autoprinter utilizes a 4-bin carousal that gives the user the ability to load a maximum of 300 CDs or DVDs at a time. Assuming you have enough unused ribbon in the printer, you will have 300 printed discs in about 4 and 1/2 hours. You can easily print more than 1200 discs per day. 5 Stars.

Reliability - The Everest 600 was extremely reliable in our 3 months plus of testing. Assuming you use approved CD or DVD media that does not stick together and have enough ribbon loaded, you can expect all 300 discs completed without error. 5 Stars.

Cost per Print - Color prints cost about $0.32/disc. If you use the black ribbon the cost per print is $0.15/disc. While this is on the higher side of CD / DVD printers we have used, continue reading on for cost justification. 1.5 Stars.

Print Quality - The Rimage Everest 600 printer has an extraordinary 600 x 600 dpi print resolution. Everest 600 prints small text sharply, high quality photographic detail, is great with halftones and gradients, and the color matching has been improved. The print quality is really something to be seen and compares very favorably to vastly more expensive screen and offset CD / DVD printers. Simply put, the Everest 600 delivers the best looking discs that I have seen in my 14 years in the CD duplication and printing business. 5 Stars.

Print Durability - Because the Everest 600 printer uses a thermal re-transfer process, the print on the discs is completely indelible and waterproof. In addition, the colors will not fade or lose their brilliance over time because the thermal re-transfer process protects the discs from external forces like moisture and UV rays. 5 Stars.

Easy of Use - This printer connects to your PC or MAC computer through a serial and USB 2.0 connection. Rimage includes an easy to use template software program called CD Designer that allows you to import standard graphic file formats like JPEG, TIFF, EPS and BMP. Users have the option of printing directly out of popular graphic programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator as well. Tip: Make sure to always use high-resolution artwork that is at least 300dpi for best results. 4.5 Stars.

Maintenance - The Rimage Everest 600 printer works best in a dust-free environment, so don't set it up in your warehouse. Like the previous Everest printers, the Everest 600 requires bi-monthly cleaning of the print head and air filters to archive the best printing results. If you use the proper CD and DVD media you can expect at least 50,000 prints before the print head needs to be replaced. We have not had to replace any print heads as of this review. Get more Everest cleaning and care tips by searching "rimage repair" in Google. 3 Stars.

Technical Support- Rimage has above average phone technical support for the CD / DVD equipment industry. To maximize uptime and customer satisfaction, Rimage offers a variety of expedited warranty and post-warranty upgrades. After warranty repairs can be expensive, as they are with other manufactures in this niche. That being said, I recommend buying this printer from a reputable dealer that has the experience to answer your technical support issues on the first call, and that can help with your operational requirements and repairs without the need purchase additional or expedited coverage. 4 Stars.

Conclusion - Rimage Everest 600 AutoPrinter (part# 4000471) is our top pick for an automated thermal CD / DVD printer for standard 120mm CD-r, DVD-r, and Blu-Ray media. Strengths are the brilliant print output, print durability, capacity, and the reliability to print 1200+ discs per day.

How to Get the Perfect Gift For a Guy

The holiday season is just around the corner. Once again you have to try to figure out what to get the men in your life. Whether it's your brother, father, son, husband, co-worker, or friend, you'll want to get something he'll like! After all, no one likes to open a gift that's totally something they DON'T want! The good news is, after reading this article you'll know exactly what to get. Also, gift giving is NOT about spending a lot of money, it's about getting something at whatever price range that fits the person you're getting it for.

First, let's talk about getting a gift for someone you know well. You have to ask yourself a few questions that will help you determine what to get:

1. Does he collect anything? (Some examples of collectibles he may be into are sports memorabilia, cars, boats, teddy bears, coins, CD's, DVD's, etc.) If he DOES collect something you've got it made! Get him something that fits what he collects. For example, say he collects sports memorabilia. You can get him a calendar that has pictures of his favorite sport or sport's team. You can get him a book all about sports memorabilia and the values of the various collectibles. You can get him a figurine of his favorite player. If he's someone who likes jewelry you can get him a nice ring, bracelet, dog-tag necklace, etc. See where I'm going with this! There's an endless array of gifts you can get him IF he's someone who's into collecting.

2. Career specific gifts. It's easy to buy him a career specific gift. Whatever his career there's something you can give him that's all about what he does. For example, if he's an attorney you could get him a book about a legal drama. If he's a construction worker, you could get him the latest tool or gadget that will help him on the job. If he's a doctor, you could get him a DVD of a movie about doctors or something related to the medical field. Just think about what his career is, and then search for books, movies, ties, etc. that are about what he does.

3. Age specific gifts. You can also get him an age specific gift. Whether he's someone who's a teenager, middle-aged, or in his golden years, get him a book, DVD, or even apparel, that is age specific. For example, if he's a middle-aged man, you may get him a book like "You The Owners Manual" by Dr. Oz, that will give him advice on how to stay healthy for the rest of his life. If he's a teenager, you may get him a useful book about finance or real estate so that he'll be aware of investing, as he gets older. There are also books that fit any age range like "Grooming Secrets For Men".

4. Hobby specific gifts. This one is easy. If he has a hobby like building model airplanes, playing video games, playing a specific sport, painting, sculpting, etc., get him something that relates to his hobby. He'll love it.

Now let's talk about someone you don't know very well, but still need a gift for. These gifts believe it or not are very easy! Here are some ideas:
a gift certificate to a website like Amazon.com where he has a lot of choices.
an exercise DVD.
a fancy pen or pen/pencil set.
a paperweight for his desk.
a gift certificate to iTunes.
a Swiss army knife.
a lighted key chain, or a modern key chain.
a magazine subscription.
tickets to a sporting event.
an all natural cologne or shower gel set.
a book about travel.
a 2009 day planner.
a book about men's grooming issues like "Grooming Secrets For Men".
a DVD set of classic movies.

Now that you've read this article you should have an excellent idea of ideas of what you can get the men in your life regardless if it's someone you know well, or if it's someone you just need a gift for.

DVD Movie Review - Joyride 2

Nicky Lynn Aycox, Kyle Schmid and Nick Zano star in the highly anticipated sequel to the hit teen horror film "Joyride. This time around director Louis Morneau puts 4 seemingly free spirited teenagers on a road trip to Las Vegas. You have your typical clich characters such as, the cool pretty boy, the annoying punk rock dude, the not so bright but cocky girl and the beautiful mature older sister. As the 4 journey on their road trip they sudden have car trouble leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere. Of course, no one cell phone is getting any reception and there is not a gas station or restaurant in site. As they travel along by foot, things are definitely not looking up for the teens until they discover an old looking, seemingly abandoned house.

The punk rocker decides to be the typical bad ass and breaks into the home without warning the others. After looking around the house, the teens then decide to check out the property of the home where they discovered an old barn with a pretty nice car stored inside. Feeling like they have no other option the 4 decide to borrow the car, just to get to the next town. Before they took it, the mature sister decides to leave a note for the owner of the vehicle leaving her phone number on it,.

Everything seemed to be getting back on track for the teens, until they decided to grab something to eat at a truck stop in their brand new vehicle. Things started going all down hill when one of the teens didn't return from the bathroom, while the other 3 waited worryingly at the table. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. After about a few minutes of one of the kids missing, the cell phone of the girl who left her number at the barn rings. What they are about to find out is that, the car that they took was the car of the psycho killer trucker that goes by the name of Rusty Nail, and he has their friend who is being held for ransom, if you will.

Pros

The movie really steps up from the first one. It gets into the plot of the movie rather quickly leaving no real times for a bathroom break without missing some sort of action. I like the fact that the movie kept the same theme of the first one making it very easy to identify that it is indeed a sequel. You can easily tell that the makers of this film was aware that more gore is what's in these days, because they added a lot more of it compared to the first film. The movie has great energy and the cast of actors in the movie does a great job.

Cons

Just like the first Joyride, this film was very unrealistic. As a matter of fact I would say the sequel is even more far fetched as the original. In my opinion, Rusty Nail is a little to unstoppable and skillful with his planning. There were several scenes that just didn't add up for me, especially some near the end of the movie.

Conclusion

When it is all said and done, Joyride 2 does not disappoint those that are true fans of the first Joyride. Even though it was very unrealistic and very clich, it was very entertaining and worth watching, so I give it a strong 3 out of 5

Sculpting DVD's - Learning to Sculpt From a DVD Or Video

Nowadays, there is more than one way for an aspiring sculptor to learn new sculpting skills & techniques. Sculptors can buy or rent DVDs or videos that teach new sculpting techniques and skills for a far lower cost than attending a class. There are a variety of DVDs available by artists like Philippe Faraut, Wendy Froud, John Brown, Mark Alfrey & more. Here are some things to look for before buying a DVD on learning to sculpt.

1. Does the artist clearly explain how he/she got from point A to point B? - Sometimes artists, in a video, will be working on a rough looking sculpture and in the next sequence the sculpture is really polished and finished, without showing how it got to that point. If that's the case then the video is skipping too much information. Although, the video may have other helpful information for you, you may still need to search for the missing techniques.

2. Does the artist show a lot of images of their polished, finished sculptures? - Realistically, an artist won't be able to get from beginning to the end of a polished/finished piece in the time it takes to watch one DVD, without skipping steps. That is one way to tell how much information will be in the video.

3. How lifelike is the work of the sculptor? - Do the sculpture images look lifeless and mannequin-like? If so, the techniques that got that sculptor to that point, will inevitably lead you to the same result as well. Try to look for sculptors who are able to demonstrate an ability to put life and personality into their work.

4. Is the video teaching skills that are at your level? - Make sure you are buying a video that is teaching at a level you are ready to work on. You might be wasting your money working from a video that is far too advanced for the level you are on.

Be Realistic When Selling on eBay

As some of you know, I spent many years buying and selling both on and offline and several of my products are based upon my own experience in this area. I know that the vast majority of my customers and subscribers have an interest in trading whether it be on eBay or at the local market but more and more I am seeing people with completely unrealistic expectations of what they will be able to do. Most commonly these unrealistic expectations are in respect of how much it actually costs to purchase specific products and what they can then be sold on for.

I regularly get emails from people who want to know where they can purchase products such as mobile (cell) phones, new release DVDs, Playstation games and similar at, say, a 50% discount to resell on eBay. The fact is that such a thing is not available - it is a simple case of supply and demand and competition.

Take DVDs for example, most people think that these are excellent products to resell on eBay because they are very popular, not particularly expensive and easy to package and ship. Unfortunately, they could not be more wrong. The DVD market is one of the most competitive that there is - take a look for yourself and see how many auctions there are on eBay for DVDs at any one time. I have just looked and counted almost 300,000! At any one time there will only be a certain number of buyers wanting to purchase a particular DVD and if you take into account the numerous different places there are that each buyer could purchase from, it is likely that in general, there will be more copies of an individual DVD available than there are buyers to purchase them. This situation causes prices to fall. The other factor that forces prices down is the fact that one DVD is the same as another. By this I mean that from a buyers point of view, there is no difference to a new DVD purchased on eBay to one which is purchased from their local DVD store. Often the only way to differentiate is on price and of course, the only way to make the price more attractive to a buyer is to lower it.

The above reasons help to explain why the wholesale discount on a new release DVD is just 1 or 2 at most ($2 or $3 roughly in the US). When you take into account the fact that the large retail chains can purchase thousands of DVDs at a time and receive a bigger discount than individual traders, you soon see why it is very difficult for a small business to compete in such a competitive industry. You simply cannot purchase new release DVDs at 50% discount and even if you could, it wouldn't be long before prices were forced down as there is always someone willing to sell a little bit cheaper than the next man.

It isn't just DVDs that fall into this category. Take mobile (cell) phones. Here in the UK you can walk down just about any high street and get the latest phones either free or for a minimal token payment. The stores are relying on making their money from the line rental contract that you will have to sign in order to get the phone. Of course, the actual cost of the phone is not free - most new mobiles are actually worth 200 or 300 which means that if you want to buy a batch of phones at wholesale, you are going to be looking at a pretty high unit cost. As with most electrical products, the market is competitive and prices have been forced down which means that the difference between your wholesale buying price and your retail selling price is minimal.

There are numerous products that suffer from the same market conditions as DVDs and phones and new/small traders really should avoid trying to sell such items at all costs because it will usually be frustrating and ultimately not financially rewarding. When trying to decide what products to sell, you need to be thinking about the type of market that a particular product is sold in. If there are already numerous sellers and many large companies selling at considerable discounts this is far from ideal. The exception to the rule is if you are able to add value in some way to make your 'offering' more unique. I wrote about adding value last year in one of my newsletters - you can read it here: http://www.thetraderonline.com/jul2204.html

At the end of the day, it is all about research, being realistic and having an understanding of the market that you want to operate in. Whilst it would be great to be able to buy and sell new release DVDs (or whatever) all day long, doubling your money every time, I am afraid that this is just not going to happen.

The Death of The PC?

PC gaming was wide and rampant in the early to almost late 90's. I would say this is due to the fact PC's were in every household in the U.S. So if there was a pc in every house why not put your game in the pc and sell to everybody. It also was the only way to game online making it prime choice for the gaming community.

But that's also only if you had the rig and correct setup. Your parents pc usually didn't work to a gamer's satisfaction. PC's became way more common place in the 2k year's but so did consoles. Consoles were limited to peer to peer and way less than mediocre graphics compared to the pc's super processors at the time.

So what happens when consoles become a household item, graphics start to surpass the computers and gaming online is no longer exclusive? A formidable opponent is created and people start to question why would I need to get on the computer to game anymore? This has been the topic of great debate almost every year at E3 as less and less pc games are shown.

The only light that burns for the pc is that every once and awhile an exclusive title is shown that consoles can't match. The biggest problem in this setup is that if your computer isn't $5,000 you can't play that super ultra great graphic heavy shooter thing. So what do you do? You play your XBOX or PS3 which currently has the best game of all time on it.

Where does that leave your pc? On the desk ready to surf the internet for your local console gaming news. The truth is the pc will not die, anytime soon, eventually yes it will. MMO's are the pc's bread and butter right now because that's the last of what consoles can't do and kinda sorta rts's but they can be done. When consoles become memory heavy and have enough room to run an MMO, you will just take your keyboard if needed and attach it to your system. That's when the pc will cease to exist as a gaming medium and will reside as a media device.

Hotmail Reverse Email Search Uncovered

Hotmail reverse email search is one of the features that Hotmail has in store. As one of the leading internet-based free email providers of today, it now includes a storage capacity which reaches more that 1 gigabyte. Having the capability of updating its features, it paved way to the growing number of Windows Live Messenger users that use the tool for instant messaging and chat.

The main function of the hotmail reverse email search feature is to allow users to track down anonymous emails that are being sent to them via their active email address. The reverse email search is definitely not a tool to spy on someone but to keep track of who's sending those unwanted emails to mailbox.

The reason why the reverse email search feature was introduced is because of the countless problems regarding anonymous email senders that keep on sending you emails and you rejecting them after which finding out that it was an important email that was being sent to you by your colleague. And I'm definitely sure that this is something that you don't want to happen with your future emails, right?

But don't worry because if you are a Hotmail user, hotmail reverse email search would be a free service for you and you won't be having problems looking for people who own those bogus email addresses by referencing their accounts that were registered via their true identity.

Together with the hotmail reverse email search is the ability for you to have unacceptable email messages that you were able to receive reported as necessary and it is not that hard to follow the requirements needed to have this done. Your protection as an email end user should always be a priority and email providers are aware of taking several actions regarding this.

The hotmail reverse email search is the best tool that users should have because it is definitely capable of giving you more information about those who send you emails so you can get away with all those deceiving ones that are not that interesting.

What You Need to Have On Hand For a Prenatal Yoga Video

When you are exercising from a prenatal yoga DVD, there are a few things you need to make sure that you have nearby in order to make your exercise routine comfortable and safe for you and your baby.

Plenty of water. Making sure that you stay properly hydrated is important during pregnancy and especially important when you exercise during pregnancy. Before you pop in that prenatal yoga DVD, make sure that you have a large jug of water nearby so that you can take a drink whenever you need to.

A yoga mat. In order to be comfortable while you are doing the exercises on your prenatal yoga DVD, you will need to have a yoga mat. A yoga mat is great for helping you stay steady and helps keep your feet from sliding around. It can help you ground your feet into the floor better so that you can keep yourself safe.

A pillow. A pillow is helpful to have, especially during the relaxation exercise at the end of a prenatal yoga DVD. You will be laying on your side during this exercise so putting the pillow between your legs can help keep your spine straighter and take some of the pressure off of your back and legs. It is also helpful to have a pillow for some of the third trimester modifications that are necessary for some of the pre natal yoga poses.

A blanket. A blanket is useful for many different poses on a prenatal yoga DVD. If you have any wrist pain or discomfort during poses that have you putting weight on your hands, putting a blanket under your palms can help minimize the pain. A blanket can also be used in the place of a pillow for some of the third trimester modifications that you will need to do.

A chair. This will become vital once you reach your third trimester. You will need to do many of the poses on a prenatal yoga DVD with modifications once you reach your third trimester. The chair will help you do the modifications effectively and safely for you and your baby.

Be sure to have everything you need nearby when you start your prenatal yoga DVD. The things that you need to have on hand include: plenty of water, a yoga mat, a pillow, a blanket and a chair. Get more free prenatal yoga DVD tips at http://www.PrenatalYogaDVD.net

Blu-Ray Disc Enhances Your DVD Viewing Experience and Data Storage Capability

Blu-ray, current big news item in home entertainment, is here to stay. This disc-based video playback and recording format that was developed expressly for use with high-definition TV boasts supreme quality as well as high data capacity for movies, computer data, and photographic images.

Those in the know-and those who are sticklers for crisp and flawless video quality-have been waiting for Blu-ray's arrival with wide-eyed anticipation. Its name, which sounds like something out of a superhero comic, is derived from the violet-blue color of the internal laser that reads the disc's data.

Blu-ray was developed through a collaboration of technological giants, including Dell, Sony, Apple, and Hewlett-Packard. These companies united as the Blu-ray Optical Disc Association (BDA) to pool their resources in perfecting this long-awaited advance in home video entertainment (movies as well as games) and personal computer data storage. It outdoes previous technology with its superior clarity and definition in both playback and recording, its vivid colors, and crisp audio.

Another major advantage of the Blu ray disc (BD) is its much higher storage capabilities: a Blu-ray disc may hold 500% of the data a DVD can hold. This is possible since its aperture is larger than what the DVD uses, letting the Blu-ray disc run at a lower rotation speed and therefore store more data. Think of the old VHS technology with its multiple recording speeds; the EP (extended play) mode, also known as SLP (super-long play), moved more slowly and could record three times the amount of programming as the fast-moving SP (standard play) mode. In that case, though, there was an obvious difference in quality-something that is absolutely not the case with the spectacular Blu-ray.

So, although the discs are the same physical size as the DVD, the video publisher can fit a lot more "stuff" on them, meaning you can look forward to more outtakes, interview features, and other bonus material on the movies you rent. These super high-quality discs are also made tough, resisting scratches and breakage more so than DVDs and affording significantly more hours of clear viewing.

Blu-ray players made are in stores across North America now, with movie titles already released by Fox, MGM, Disney, Paramount and other leading media producers. They're already quite popular, but you can look for sales to really take off as the holidays approach. As part of the transition process from DVD to BD, hybrid-type players that play both formats should soon be readily available.

Sealab 2021 - Season Three DVD Review

Created by Adam Reed and Matt Thompson, the duo behind Frisky Dingo and Space Ghost, comes a third serving of Sealab 2021. Sealab 2021 is also a big part of the adult-oriented Adult Swim family (Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show). A spoof of Sealab 2020, the the Hanna-Barbera toon of the early '70s, this irreverent series revolves around a team of sea-dwelling colonisers.

As with their previous work, Reed and Thompson poke fun at stereotypes (the crazy megalomaniac sea captain guy, the tough-talking African-American lady and the easy blonde blue-eyed ex-cheerleader to name but a few) and expand them 'til they are set to explode. It's funny stuff and as I have said before about their work, it's very silly and at times completely crude. And I mean that in a good way.

There are a slew of extras including the original pitch Reed and Thompson intended to make to the Cartoon Network, an episode based on Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol and a series of charming ads made for the show featuring the excellent low-tech sock puppet Kitty Fun-Fun and some of Atlanta's 'housingly challenged'. The voice talent features former Chips star Erik Estrada as the hilariously dodgy Marco Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar Diego Garcia Marquez.

If you are a fan of Reed and Thompson's previous work this is another one to ad to your list of favourites. But if you have never seen any of it before I recommend you do. It's pretty funny stuff.

Massage Products

There are different products that are used in the massage therapy business. These various products can be found in massage therapy supply stores. These are the products that we see when we have massage therapy sessions. Some of these products are also introduced to new therapists by the manufacturers. To start with, you should have an office that is presentable and appealing to a prospective client. You should have a reception with chairs for them to sit while waiting, as well as a desk for your receptionist. At the waiting area, you can have a glass cabinet that showcases the various products that you use, as well as those available to your clients for sale.

Next, you will need to have a high quality massage table or bed. For those clients who prefer to use a massage chair, there are some adjustable chairs that are available. The client straddles the chair while the massage therapist massages them. Another very important massage product is the oils that are used. They are mainly essential oils that are used for aromatherapy.

It is important to know the contraindications and safety issues of these oils. Those not permitted for massage therapy should at this point be omitted from the oils that can be used. You will also require a sturdy tote to carry around the oils without any spills occurring. Some other very important massage products are towels and washable massage table sheets. These are important for the hygiene of the client. You should change them before you receive a new client in the room.

5 Stand Up Comedy DVDs to Ask For This Christmas

DVDs from various stand up comics are very popular at this time of the year, and they sell by the bucketload because they make excellent Christmas presents. So which stand up comedy DVDs are worth getting this year, either for yourself or for your friends and family?

Well there are five that caught my eye and they are as follows:

1. Michael McIntyre - Live And Laughing

Michael McIntyre is the funniest comedian around at the moment in my opinion, and he is really starting to establish himself as a top-class comic. His hilarious appearance on Live At The Apollo last week will have helped, but the great thing about Michael McIntyre is that he is exceptionally funny, both in terms of his actual material and the way he delivers his jokes. I maybe biased because I'm a huge fan, but this is my top choice of stand up DVD this Christmas.

2. Lee Evans - Big - Live At The O2

Lee Evans' DVD was close behind because he is also one of the best comedians around. He is already a household name and indeed one of the most popular comedians in the world, however I still find McIntyre to be slightly funnier. If you are a Lee Evans fan, however, you will love this new DVD because it features two and a half hours of brand new material and is a must-have item for any Lee Evans fan.

3. Frankie Boyle Live

Frankie Boyle is a stand up comic who has become a pretty big name in comedy thanks to his constant appearances on Mock The Week in the last few years. Indeed every week he completely steals the show and outshines all the other comedians who appear on there with his brilliantly savage and near-the-knuckle brand of humour. So this DVD promises to provide lots of laughs if his appearances on Mock The Week are anything to go by.

4. Dara O'Briain Talks Funny - Live In London

I don't personally think Dara O'Briain adds anything to Mock The Week, but despite that his stand up material is actually very good. I saw one of his live shows on TV a few months ago and it was extremely funny so if this is a benchmark, then it's a fair bet that his new DVD will be equally as funny.

5. Bill Bailey - Tinselworm

My final choice of DVD is the new one from Bill Bailey. What I like about Bill Bailey is that he is obviously a very talented musician and his musical material is just as impressive and as funny as the more conventional stand-up stuff he does. This DVD filmed at Wembley Stadium should be just as funny as his previous DVDs, which are also brilliant.

Click here to find out more about the Michael McIntyre Live And Laughing DVD and the Lee Evans - Big - Live At The O2 DVD, and to read about many other top-selling DVDs.

The 3 Keys To Successful Home Theater Rooms

Home theater rooms provide an escape for the whole family. With a high quality home theater system, you can enjoy a cinematic experience in your own home.

When constructing a home theater system, there are three main components you will need to know about. These main components are a DVD player, advanced surround sound speakers and a large television screen.

Most home theatres have a television of 27 inches or larger, but the newer models in wide-screen are more preferred for the home theater experience. The format used for most dvds is wide-screen. Wide-screen television offers a better shae for viewing films as the screen aspect better matches a cinema screen, also most of these TVs support high resolution. The images of these TV's are greatly enhanced compared to those seen on older televisions. You have a number of choices: In addition to rear-projection TVs, there are LCD or plasma TVs that have flat-panel screens, and front-projection TVs that are used with separate screens, like movie projectors.

A DVD player is also key for great home theater rooms. If you like Blu-Ray and HD DVD formats, you should purchase a DVD player which can handle these systems. The vast majority of players are capable of playing recorded movies (CD-R/RW and DVD-R/RW discs), MP3s, CDs and DVD movies. If you want to quickly and easily change through your CD or DVD collection a multi disc player is a necessity. The progressive scan feature of some DVD players leads to a clear, sharp image. Considering a DVD player/recorder, capable of recording television shows and movies onto black discs for you to watch later, may be a good idea. DVD-R recorders also have big hard drives to download and save your favorite shows.

When looking for a home theatre sound system, you will discover that a starter set with a center, left, and right speaker plus a subwoofer for bass will work well. Look in audiovisual magazines for reviews on the best rated speakers. Reviews on the best rated speakers are usually included in audiovisual magazines. If you can, preview the sound of the speakers you want before buying them so that you can determine if they have the kind of audio you need. Take your time and visit several different stores before making your final choice.

Todays home theater rooms can be a great escape if they are planned out correctly. You want to put together the best system possible so that you can really relax and enjoy the feeling of your home theater. You must understand what equipment best fits your needs, research your options, thus ensuring that you purchase the best equipment. Forethought about your home theatre will get you a better result and save money.

Blu-ray Recordable DVD Technology by TDK

The new blu-ray DVD disks introduced by the TDK Corporation are the BD-R25, BD-R50, BD-RE25 and BD-RE50. TDK BD-R25 and BD-R50 are "write-once" discs while the other two BD-RE25 and BD-RE50 are the "rewritable" blu-ray disks. TDK (BD-R25) is single layered and single sided blu-ray disk with capacity of 25GB. TDK (BD-R50) is also single layered and single sided blu-ray disk with more recording capacity of 50GB. BD-RE25 is dual layered, single sided blu-ray disk having 25GB recording capacity. BD-RE50 is also dual layered, single sided blu-ray disk having twice the recording capacity of 50GB.

Initially the blu-ray disks used a protected cartridge but now TDK introduced the technology of DURABLES-2 (hard coating) in both the Blu-ray DVD disks of BD-R & BD-RE. So, a recording surface is achieved that is very highly resistant to dirt, scratches and the fingerprint smudges. Therefore, the users can freely use the blu-ray DVD disks without any anxiety. Above the recording layer of disk is utilized spin coating of high precision to form the cover layer. So, smoothness is realized at nano level and this ensures stabilized characteristics of playback and recording.

The previous types of write once disks used organic dye while the recording layer of new TDK BD-R blu-ray DVD disks use inorganic material. As light does not effect the recording layer, so the disk realizes remarkable achievable. The error rate of BD-RE is has a very low even after overwrites of 10,000 due to the phase change material that is highly sensitive. For achieving functioning layer's precision forming of the dual layered 50GB blu-ray disk, the stacking technology of high precision has been added.

The layer-0 (lower layer) and layer-1 (lower layer) are combined together in terms of recording layer and high sensitivity transparency ratio, ensuring stabilized characteristics of playback and recording. TDK Corporation's commitment to the advanced technology of optical disk has created the world's first high capacity Blu-ray DVD disks (25GB & 50GB) with capable recording speed of 2X. BD-R and BD-RE blu-ray disks from TDK provide greater facility along with large data storage capacities hence expanding optical recording's potential.

The other name for Blu-ray disks is "BD disk" which is the optical disk format's next generation. This disk format was joint introduction by the BDA Blu-ray Disk Association (group of companies that include Dell, HP, JVC, Hitachi, Apple, Mitsubishi, Pioneer, LG, Panasonic, Thomson, Sony, TDK, Philips, Sharp and Samsung). The main purpose for developing this DVD disk format was to enable the HD video's rewriting, playback and recording and the ability to hold more volume of data.

The blu-ray DVD format is more advantageous than the traditional DVD. The latest technology induced in the blu-ray disk format enables it to hold data more than 5 times as that of which the DVD can store. The recording capacities of the single layered blu-ray disk are 25GB and that of the dual layered disk is 50GB.
The combination of extra data recording capacity and utilization of advanced codec of audio and video provide the consumers the HD High definition experience that is unprecedented. The main difference between the other disk technologies (DVD, DVD-RAM, DVDRW, and DVDR) and blu-ray disk format is that the blue-violet laser is used in the blu-ray while red laser is used in the other formats for the function of reading and writing data onto the disk. That is why it has been given the name of blu-ray.

Bond Must Die, Spy Surveillance Gadgets Bond Villains Need to Get

So Bond bounded back this week in the new Quantum Solace movie with a villain which many are calling not as exciting as the villains past. The critics might be saying that Dominic Greene isn't the most memorable Bond villain that 007 has ever faced, which is not saying much considering the average intelligence of Bond's usual villains.

Let's face it, your average Hollywood evil overlord may be considered a genius by other characters in the movie but for most clear-thinking movie goers with an ounce of common sense they're one step away from the people who ran Enron into the ground. Hell, there was even a sketch on Saturday Night Live in the 1990's, where several Bond villains were promoting a book "What Not To Do If You Capture James Bond", the inspiration and result of which can be seen in the online list " The Top 100 Things I'd Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord"

In fact, just a cursory look back at the James Bond movie series throws up several instances where common sense and just a simple series of electronics would have helped out the bad guy. In their field of operation some spy surveillance equipment like GPS jammers, pinhole cameras, cell phone blocking bags and faraday cages must have been available so the question remains to be asked...

Why didn't the villain use them? So how could have those valiant and hard-working supervillains snuffed out 007's life, ending the plans of nefarious media companies like MGM and 20th Century Fox? The ongoing plan to steal money from our pockets while distracting us with unlikely action sequences and unnecessary gadget and cleavage shots.

Goldfinger Needed Security Cameras. Very few people would need a plot synopsis of Goldfinger, the movie which resulted not only in the now-famous quote 'no Mr Bond I expect you to die' but in one of the most disturbing joke names of the franchise. In fact it's better if you don't think too hard about the name of the main love interest 'Pussy Galore' without some serious medication sitting close by... yeesh.

If Auric Goldfinger had put just a little bit of faith into training up his lower-level underlings or installing some basic security the Bond franchise might have ended there. We all know what spy surveillance cameras are, they're the little device which sits at the top of the cell and let people know what's going on in a cell without putting them through the inconvenience of actually going in there.

So why weren't the cells in Auric Goldfinger's US ranch set up with such spy surveillance equipment, especially considering he had high tech equipment like lasers, nuclear bombs and cars made out of solid gold?

They wouldn't need to be big, and in fact the smaller they were the lesser chance that the hero would find them and disable them in a bid to get the guards to enter the room. At the very least Goldfinger should have told guards to get 10 guards with big machine guns to investigate when a prisoner suddenly 'disappeared' from the cell.

Hi. I'm a known mercenary in a movie about the British secret service. Could I order a GPS jammer please? (The World Is Not Enough, Renard takes on M) So you're the deceitful daughter of a British oil magnate, you've teamed up with an assassin of some note and you've captured the head of the British secret service. What do you do?

How Trojan Virus Threats on Your Computer Can Put Your Financial Information at Risk

Much like the classical Greek story of the Trojan Horse, a Trojan Horse virus (often referred to as simply a Trojan) is hidden within a seemingly benign file waiting to unload itself maliciously onto your computer, and this means that you really need to get rid of trojan virus threats. A trojan is often masked by its author in applications promising benefit such as free screen savers or through even greater deception, programs promising anti-viral protection themselves. Common infection points include email attachments and Person to Person (P2P) networks, where users feel they are downloading safe music, pictures, or game programs only to learn they have unknowingly installed the Trojan.

In addition to disabling, erasing data ,and crashing your system, A Trojan infection may lead to devastating issues that compromise your privacy and identity, such as the disabling of current security software, leaving a door wide open for information phishing programs. Some Trojans compromise your online browser, taking you to sites that resemble actual, legitimate online companies such as banks and mortgage companies, where the user is invited to provide information such as bank account and password information in order to "verify" identity. The most malicious versions of this threat contain screen shot programs and key-stroke logging software that gather information such as passwords and credit card numbers and send them off to be exploited. A Trojan may also have the ability to allow backdoor access to your entire system, allowing groups to directly manipulate and retrieve any information they want whenever you are logged into the internet.

In addition to constantly managing the programs you download and encounter on the web, this threat can best be combated by installing powerful spyware software that monitors and verifies downloaded files for malicious content before you unknowingly open them. These programs have the benefit of having large libraries of known Trojans and are constantly updating their definitions to counter newly developed programs. Use them as front-line protection and to identify and safely remove possible infections already in place. The importance of identity protection is vital in this modern age of information.

I have found the best spyware remover for getting rid of trojan virus threats is XoftSpySE because it has the largest database of all of the threats that are out there. Click here for a FREE spyware scan now!

What Is Blue Ray? - Read On Before Deciding To Upgrade

A lot of people are currently very confused as to which format to go for, HD-DVD or Blue Ray, as the current format war continues. Generally members of the public do not know what strengths, weaknesses and unique selling points there are for each. To understand what blue ray is and be better informed as to your choice you need to know what technology actually makes it work, the film studios that are endorsing the format and some over points which we will cover later on. An upgrade could be an expensive wrong move if you do not go into it with your eyes open.

Blue Laser or Red Laser? - That Is The Question

If somebody stopped you in the street and asked "What is Blue ray?" would you be able to answer them? Probably not. The answer to the question actually lies within the question. Generally it is not possible to define a difference between a Blue ray disc and a DVD disc as the look the same, are the same size and shape.Blue ray is called Blue ray because of the fact that it uses a blue (violet) laser to read and record data of all kinds including the likes of video and audio. Smaller and finer technological processes are used which pushes up the initial costs associated with Blue Ray compared to DVD's. We will however see the costs come down quite rapidly over the years to come as the process becomes more common and the technology easier to produce.

Comparison Example Of What Blue Ray Is

Compare it to a standard DVD as you would compare a calculator to a pc. Both of these can perform all sorts of mathematical equations and much but the pc can perform many times faster than a calculator can as it is infinitely more powerful. Using that example with Blue ray, a DVD and a Blue ray disc can perform the same type of operation but Blue ray is capable of outperforming a DVD, doing a much better job in playing better audio and video.

What Movies Can You Watch

Whilst educating yourself on exactly what Blue ray is, it should be borne in mind what films you will be able to purchase in your chosen format. Some of the popular films you can buy are only available on HD-DVD, whilst alot of the others can be obtained on Blue ray. As at January 2008, if you use a Blue ray player you won't be able to watch the 2007 box office hit Transformers. On the other hand the latest Bond sensation, Casino Royale, will only be available on Blue ray (that said, all of the movies are still released on standard DVD, these comparisons are for next generation video format). You can of course obtain a hybrid player which will obviously play both Blue Ray and HD-DVD but film releases are tending to favor one format or the other.

In conclusion you should at least now have a better understanding of what Blue ray is to enable you to make a more informed decision when you ultimately decide which format to upgrade to.
