Is a Paperless Office Really a Possibility?

What are your practice's goals for having an electronic medical records (EMR) system? It is important that your practice understands the answer to this question.

Do you want a truly paperless office?
Do you hope to make your practice more efficient overall?
Are you in preparation for 'pay-for-performance' reviews?
Do you expect electronic medical records to be the norm in the future?
Does any of it even seem possible?

When moving from a paper office to an electronic one, a challenge faced is what to do with the many paper-based forms that are currently in use at the practice. Some of these forms are federal and state requirements, while others are simply frequently used at the practice on a daily basis.

At our practice, we have so many forms, we don't know the exact number. We're putting a binder together which will help us evaluate which of the forms are truly necessary, which are gathering duplicate information, and which are relatively unused and can be discontinued.

Our goal was to enter as much documentation as we could to the EMR system. Many of the forms needed to be made into templates which could be filled in electronically. You'll have to select the forms that need to be incorporated into the EMR system and which to fill out manually; the creation of custom templates costs time and money.

The paper forms will have to be scanned into the system and saved as images. The downside to this type of scanning solution is that the data stored in this way has limited uses. This 'read-only' data is not easily accessible for research or data mining. Still, some practices running on EMR systems have already discovered that some paper forms are integral elements in overall workflow, even if shredded after use at the end of the day.

One way to reduce paperwork without needing to switch to a full EMR system is e-Prescriptions. Prescriptions can be sent electronically to the patient's pharmacy, without the need for a doctor to look around for a prescriptions pad and write it out by hand.

Also take into consideration the communication between medical practitioners - a majority of them won't be ready for EMR in the immediate future. Estimates state that around 7 to 10% of all medical practices are currently using EMR. Some systems can create documents from the clinical exam, then either print them and send out by post, or transfer them to digital to send to a referring doctor by fax. The legal terms for transmitting medical information by email have become increasingly complex, and would require another full column to discuss properly.

If you are scanning all of your paper records into electronic format, you still might not be able to totally eliminate the use of paper at your practice. Some forms of paper record-keeping need to be kept for regulatory and legal reasons. So, don't sell the file cabinets just yet. It could be quite a long time before we see all documentation stored electronically.

Evaluation of Usability and an Introduction of EHR Systems

"Are EHR systems usable, effective and functional?"

Abstract

This article provides an evaluation of usability and an introduction of electronic healthcare systems from a usability, effectiveness and functionality perspectives. The most important users in EHR systems are those who make decision and those who solve the problems. It is relevant to have a look at users experiences in using such systems and find out the importance of usability. The authentic users in healthcare system should have the most available tools due to access to the right and sufficient patient's health information. The background and related work of this essay would be an introduction of electronic healthcare systems.

The result of this assessment has proven that EHR systems are somehow usable if they are implemented carefully with high quality in configuration according to the users' need. In fact EHR systems are necessary for the healthcare systems. The functionality depends on how the system is integrated and implemented. Consequently, it may give the satisfactory result for those who seek the information and use the systems. As a result the system functions effectively.

Introduction

The recent years has brought series of electronic communication tools that improve health care system. The electronic healthcare record (EHR) which is replaced the paper based system contains the medical record that physicians and nurses created and use in their daily routines. The other authentic health professionals and social workers also employ this system. Usability of EHR systems should denote the ease of use with efficiency and help the clinicians to access information. It is also important for a patient that their health information is recorded in a secure system that authentic users have access to. An EHR is a tool to provide sufficient data information for the authentic users. This paper provides an evaluation of electronic healthcare systems from a usability, effectiveness and functionality perspectives. It will be investigated the experiences of previous users of those systems. The decision makers should have the most powerful tools available to access to the right information. One assumes that the EHR is more powerful tool than paper based records with functionality, usability and efficiency. It helps all users in the healthcare system to perform their jobs at the high level of quality expected by national and international standards. One discuss about what makes a system usable or unusable and why some systems function and some malfunction. The discussion also contains what makes a system less or more effective.

Materials and Methods

The materials, which are used in this article, are the result of some evaluation and research that the other researchers conducted, a study and a short look at an assignment that I have performed by a direct observation at the St. Olav hospital in Trondheim, Norway.

State of the art

In this section I am focusing mainly on usability, functionality and efficiency of EHR systems according to some position papers, study and research result of some researchers.

As we know an EHR system contains all medical information of a patient.
Walsh (2004) indicated, "the clinical usability of electronic records systems is particularly relevant with the recent appointment of service providers to implement the National Integrated Care Record Service for the NHS as usability also affects patient care."

"Usability concerns whether an information system is structured so that users can get an answer to fit their purpose." (Zitner, 2006)

Edwards (2006) presented that" Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and computerized provider order entries (CPOE) are recognized to improve quality of care and patient safety. Results indicate users had positive perceptions of system ease of use after implementation. Post-implementation ratings were neutral or positive for most users." (Edwards, 2006)

"The effects of introducing an EHR system and removing the paper-based electronic health record might depend on the size of the hospital, nature of work at the department, functionality in the EHR system introduced and preparedness, ability and willingness of the hospital organization to adapt to the changes introduced" (Faxvaag, 2007 (Berg M, 2001))

What makes a system more or less user-friendly? One believes that system developers should pay attention to user's real needs and demand. Thus they can design a system according to their need. In such case a system can be satisfactory. The easiest way for making a system usable is to undertake true and realistic testing by the future users of the system (usability testing). A system should be designed easy to use, functional, less complicated, eye pleasing and user friendly.

According to Faxvaag et al (2007), "an EHR system provides immediate access to patient health record information by closing loops in communication and reducing delays in obtaining records from other providers. Faxvaag et al (2007) declared, "The-system was useful in regard to professional learning. It mentioned that it was easy to call a chief physician who could look up the patient's case history in the EMR, or (in less urgent cases) send an electronic note to a chief physician who would see the memo inhis work-list and could look up the case when he had time. Further, if someone needed a specialist to interpret an x-ray image and the physician in question was at the operating theatre, the picture could be displayed on screen in the theatre. So, in the same way as the EMR-system was useful to support quick answers to external calls about inpatients."

System developers and software programmers usually conduct a usability testing to measure usability.

According to Mller et.al(2006)"usability testing is a subset of the field of human-computer interaction that involves applied psychology, computer science, and information science.Although usability testing may take different forms, it seeks to assess the functionality of information technology such as clinical information systems, electronic documentation, and application software."

The system designer can continuously maintain a high usability. Mlleret.al, (2006) has conducted a research on how they could measure the clinical usability of an EHR configured "by use of participatory design with clinicians from a neurological stroke unit in order to get input to the County's future strategy for incremental implementation of EHR.
The result of Mller's research in Denmark indicates that EHR can be usable with good configuration.

Do all clinicians like to use electronic medical records? Walsh (2002) indicated what Van Ginneken stated, "clinicians reject many computerised medical record systems because they are not basedon a story metaphor. "
This means that not all users are happy with the systems. The functionality has not been completely satisfactory.

One conducted an observation on system user activities at the lung department at St. Olav hospital in Trondheim, Norway. After direct observation and having some conversations with doctors and nurses, I discovered that the database could be frustrating sometimes. For this reason users apply the paper-based records and medical curve. Timing is very important for them and most of the time they have to wait for uploading the system due to read patient's recorded information. It was also mentioned that patients want that their medical information be confidential and secure.

Professor Pieter Toussaint mentioned in his lecture on evaluation in April 20th 2007 that in Netherlands a few years ago, a system was implemented due to facilitate the prescription procedures through an EHR system. Doctors could send the prescriptions directly to the pharmacies where a patient could receive their medicine. The system caused lots of death. That's why most of the non-registered patients whose history was not recorded at the hospitals got wrong medicine. Consequently they received side effects and some of them even died. The researchers and clinicians explored that the problem was a insufficient and incorrect implementation. The system was not only ineffective but also resulted a national problem!

There have been made many studies on usability of EHR systems. Angermo et.al (2006) provided valuable information about the usability of NIC as a classification system for use in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. "The study was about nursing interventions documented in cancer patients' records and an analysing of their types and the degree, which were classified with the Nursing Intervention Classification(NIC)."

Discussion and Conclusion

In this report I have presented in short usability, functionality and efficiency of EHR systems. The main purpose of usability factor for computerized systems is that it promotes an increase in user performance. Better performance means more gets done. One of the drawbacks of having a system that creates and enhancement of performance is that it requires more skills of the users. It is crucial that the right systems are put in place that suits the needs of their users. Being that the health care system is a high-quality environment, it is necessary that these systems work with at a high-quality level as well. It is clear to see from (figure 1), that since implementing the new systems, user performance has increased, over the previous ways. After researching about the usability factor, it is apparent that most users prefer the organized method of data entry, filing and access abilities. With a more organized and secure method of record keeping, client data is kept safe.

Looking at the results of the research, it is quite clear that not all users were happy with the computerized method. There were satisfied with the way things more comfortable. Individual understanding by employees can create usability complications resulting in a disruption of performance. While the usability factor can seem important, if a system is slow moving, it cannot work properly or as efficiently as it should. While a new form of data keeping using computers can seem like the right move, it is not always the case. Performance is the key to implementing a highly efficient functioning component of the job.

It is not uncommon to find out that some of the users are not completely satisfied with slow-moving systems that take up too much time. While implementing a health care access system, we need to focus mainly on the user's needs. There are only two stakeholders generally the organization disseminating information and the users who can use information for their benefit. On the other hand while implementing an EHR system in a corporate environment the designer faces a tougher challenge. The usability of EHR to employees and users is one issue, the usability of products and a system as a whole can be increased by the implementation of it, which is a broader second issue.

Three crucial functions may be performed due to increase usability of an EHR system. First, it should help in getting feedback from the users, services and send them to the developers, facilitate discussion among the software developers who design the system and users. This will give deeper insight to the product development team to acknowledge consumers need. The second aspect is to facilitate the communication between stakeholders and top brass of the organization, which will help in making decision process democratically. Every stakeholder will feel attached to the organization and as a result the longevity of organization will be ensured. A third objective would be to preserve historical.

In conclusion one can imply that the usability of EHR systems is dependent on the high functionality, efficiency and implementation. An EHR should contain sufficient information of the patients and clinical records. It should be secure, confidential and usable for many authorized users to be able to view the records. Learning is another factor that we should not forget. The newbies in healthcare system should be able to learn from an EHR system. One should also have the ability to measure the health status so that a doctor may be able to help patient in most effective way. A wrong implemented of an EHR system can lead to national catastrophes such as what happened in Netherlands a few years ago. One cannot deny the fact that the EHR systems are more used than paper-based systems. Although there were occurred some mistakes in the past, but such systems help the authentic users to perform their jobs at the high level of quality, low cost and save their time.

Tips For Purchasing Jewellery As A Gift

People often visit us with the question, "What should I buy as a gift?" Whether it is for a birthday, a wedding anniversary, Valentines Day, Christmas or "just because", jewellery has been the gift of choice of many for thousands of years. As such, we have compiled a list of "things to think about" when purchasing jewellery as a gift on the internet, that we hope will ensure there will be less stress and more joy when you next decide to give one of the most treasured gifts that you can give.

1. If you are looking to buy a ring, the number one question has to be "how do I know what size to buy?" If you are not sure of what size their finger is, or aren't even sure which finger they would prefer to wear the ring on, this can quite obviously be a source of distress! There have been many ingenious ways that people have used over the years to determine ring size, from stealing one of their other rings and finding out its size, to tying a piece of string around their finger while they sleep. Some of these ideas work well, but none of them are perfect. The ideal solution is to be aware that unless you drug them (not recommended by Titan Jewellery), and then get an accurate ring size, you probably aren't going to get their size perfect first time. So what is the solution? By all means do your best to find out their ring size by whatever means necessary, but buy from a company that will allow you to exchange the ring for the correct size if you need to. You will normally have to ensure that the ring is returned in perfect condition, so as soon as you determine that the ring size is incorrect; return it to its original packaging.

The second alternative is to purchase a gift certificate instead. An electronic gift certificate means that not only do they get to choose the size themselves, but they also get to choose the style.

2. The second most important tip when purchasing any gift off the internet is to "get in early!" The vast majority of jewellery on the internet will have to be shipped to you. While any company worth dealing with should send you your item within a couple of days of ordering, once it has left that company's hands, it is then purely up to the shipping company that handles the shipping as to when it arrives at your doorstep. During holiday "gift giving" seasons, so many gifts of all descriptions get shipped around the world, that shipping can come to a standstill, and normal shipping times can be extended significantly. There is nothing worse than ordering the perfect gift off the internet, only to have it arrive several days, or even weeks, too late. The answer? Get in early! If you are buying a Christmas gift for example, double the standard shipping time you see on any jewellery company's website (unless using express post or courier options). You will often find also, that many online companies offer early bird specials in an effort to get customers to purchase their gifts at a time when they will be guaranteed not to be disappointed.

The second alternative is once again to purchase an electronic gift certificate. If you have left it to the last minute, don't despair! An electronic gift certificate can be emailed to you within hours of purchasing it. The recipient can then choose whatever item they like (in whatever size!) and the added bonus is that after the holiday season, the postage times will go back to normal, so they shouldn't have to wait!

3. What kind of ring/gift is appropriate? Well, that often depends on how well you know the recipient. The first obvious distinction is whether they are male or female. Might they prefer a pendant or pair of earrings instead of a ring? Have a look at what they wear, if they don't normally wear pendants, or they don't have pierced ears, these are probably pretty good indications that they would prefer a ring! If they do wear pendants or earrings, then these make popular alternatives - particularly if the jewellery is hypoallergenic.

If you have decided to purchase them a ring, what style should you go for? For gentlemen, we would recommend watching what they wear, and decide between getting them a casual dress ring, or an elite dress ring depending on whether they prefer the casual or dressier style of appearance.

If it is a lady you are purchasing for, have a look at the rings she currently wears. Are they large and ostentatious? Or are they simple, elegant and refined? If she normally wears a wedding or engagement ring, you don't want to overshadow that ring with the one you purchase her; otherwise she may not wear it very often.

More Information to Do With Wireless Outdoors Speakers

We all know how much fun it is just to relax outdoors with friends and family and either talk or just pass time. Some people prefer to barbecue and invite friends and family and just have a good time. The items you will find on a great outdoor expedition or outing is a barbecue pit and some music for most people. When it comes to music some people have someone playing music while in some occasions people simply carry their radios and other CD players and just have the music playing. Since people will probably not huddle in one place and will be spread out, there is a need to spread the speakers as well. This meant long wires. Sometimes the wires are simply not that long and this poses a limitation as far as the music is concerned. But recent advances in music technology has the picture changing with the advent of wireless outdoor speakers which do not require any wires to be connected between the receiver and the speakers themselves.

Wireless speakers employ more or less the same technology that is employed in cordless phone. The device or system consists of a tuner or receiver and then a set of speakers. The music player plays the tune and converts the CD signals from digital to analog. These signals are them transmitted into the air and a decoder usually located inside the speakers converts the signals into digital sound which we appreciate.

The technology behind how wireless outdoors speakers works allows the speakers to work on a range of 900 MHz which is almost the same as a good wireless or cordless phone. The signals can also travel through walls making the speaker placement extremely flexible. This means that the distance limitations imposed by wires are no longer present with wireless speakers. They can thus be placed anywhere and even away from where they can be damaged.

Wireless outdoor speakers can be purchased at most major electronic stores. The chances are if you can find a store that sells stereo equipment or home entertainment units then the chances are great that you will find a wireless outdoor speakers store. These speakers are especially popular with the same people who purchase iPods and other portable music devices. This is because they are the ideal and do not require one to even transport CDs.

EBay is another great place to purchase wireless outdoors speakers. This is because EBay is the largest market place on the planet and one would be hard-pressed not to find excellent speakers are extremely affordable prices.

Wireless outdoor speakers are also great for the indoors. This is because there are no cumbersome wires to contend with. One can also place the speakers away from the receiver and since the sound can traverse through walls, the speakers can be placed in different rooms from the tuner itself. This is ideal especially for people that want speakers in places like the kitchen or bedroom.

Internet Faxing

I would like to touch on the technology of what we call Internet Faxing or I-Faxing.I-Faxing is a method of transmitting messages electronically via the internet or IP addresses (like postal addresses for machines on the internet allocated by your Internet Provider).Much like e-mail has taken off in the business world (and outside of it), so will Internet Faxing and the concept of communicating for a minimal cost and without the use of paper.

So how does an office take advantage of Internet Faxing?Well let's firstly look at the application that I-Faxing is used for.Just like normal faxing I-Faxing allows us to transmit electronic messages from one point to another using the scanning technology in either a fax machine or MFD (multi-function device). The difference between a normal fax and this technology is that the cost involved with sending this data can be dramatically reduced.

I-Fax also allows the sender to reduce paper usage and the company's carbon footprint on the environment by taking advantage of I-Fax from desktop software that is associated with the module installed in the MFD.Given our commitment to a sustainable future, I-Faxing, Scanning, Emailing and other clever paper saving systems (including the simple double-sided print) are options that have become apart of our everyday life, without exception. The good news for businesses concerned not only with its carbon footprint but also operating costs and profit margins is that I-Fax can help you with all of these.

Take the following as a working example:

Company ABC has an office in Melbourne, Australia with a multi-function device fitted with I-Fax and also has an office in Sydney, Australia (interstate) with the exact same configuration. The two offices need to communicate between one another for printed orders and invoices.Rather than sending normal faxes or sending physical paper via the postage either office can send a fax via the internet (I-Fax) without having to pay local or interstate phone costs. And depending on how the receiving station is set up the fax can either print out direct or can even be forwarded on to a local fax number in the other state (thus reducing interstate call costs to near enough nothing, excluding IP costs).

You can see with this type of technology how a company could save hundreds of dollars alone in faxing costs and improve the efficiency of its current system.I have had the pleasure of viewing many clients operate a well-oiled system with I-Fax and enjoy the speed and reduction in costs associated with this technology. You will find that even with some of the latest word processing software that I-Fax is now being incorporated for everyday use.

Have a look at your current system or if you are investigating a future system have a look at I-Fax options that are available and how they could benefit your organisation. My example above is only a small example of what can be done with this fantastic technology.

Why I Buy My Computers And Other Electronics Online

I must admit that I'd be absolutely lost without the growing number of desktop and laptop computers, printers, digital cameras and all the other assorted electronic equipment in my house and home office. I know I once got along without all this gear, but that was back in the olden days, in the last millennium. Today I absolutely depend on it. What this means is that I buy a lot of stuff, and I have formed some definite opinions about where I do my shopping and what places I avoid like the plague.

I hate to say it, but #1 on my list of places to avoid are the big electronics chain stores. They are certainly convenient and their prices are usually in the ballpark. And all their glossy brochures have lured me more than once when I quickly needed some RAM, a disk, or a new inkjet printer. Problem is that their sales people are embarrassingly clueless and often only interested in selling extended service contracts. No thank you.

When I build a new desktop computer I occasionally buy the parts from a local electronics superstore. Those places are a geek's paradise, or they could be if it weren't for a couple of really annoying deal breakers. First, half of the boards don't work after I bring them home. And second, I absolutely refuse to buy things that are only a good deal after a mail-in rebate or two. I've been burned too many times with rebates. No more.

Office supply stores are stocking more and more electronic equipment. So when I go buy a ream of paper or some other small stuff I often end up looking at their laptops and digital cameras. And once I even bought a notebook computer there, something that I later regretted as here was, of course, no service or support. I actually like the office supply stores and have no problem buying things like laser printer cartridges there, but that's about it for computer stuff.

Another bad practice that's taking over is luring customers with low prices, make them wade through several order screens, and then break the bad news, like some gargantuan shipping charge or that, sadly, the item is not in stock. Do that to me once and I won't be back.

So where do I get most of my electronics gear? Online. I love being able to browse online stores at my leisure, without any sales pressure and usually with all the information I need. I like neat, clean just-the-facts stores that specialize on the kind of gear I want. I don't need useless "reviews" by folks who always seem to have an axe to grind or hate everything. And I don't need long lists of the 99 lowest prices on the web. All I want is information and a good selection. I do expect a degree of customer support in case I have questions, and most of the better online stores can handle that easily.

Had someone told me 10 or 15 years ago that some day I'd buy things like laptops, digital cameras, printers or even desktop computers online from some website far away, I'd have laughed. But that's where I get most of my electronic equipment and gadgets from these days, and I've rarely ever had a bad experience. Those online stores seem to try a lot harder, and that's good news for guys like me.

Using a EMC Test Facility

All of our electronic devices create electromagnetic fields. It is important though that an electronic device be properly shielded, not just from emitting its field to other electronics around it, but also to prevent other electronics EM fields from messing with their capabilities. As a result, anyone wishing to develop and release any form of electronic device is required to go through the steps of testing its shielding and ground capabilities. This is known as an EMC or Electromagnetic Compatibility test and it is done in specially designed testing facilities.

In most cases, the EMC test facility is composed of an anechoic chamber. This chamber is exactly as it sounds; a chamber in which no echo is produced. Both sounds and frequencies will bounce off of various surfaces at different rates. The anechoic chamber prevents any other frequencies or fields from entering the facility so that the testing equipment is testing the electronic device without any contamination from other nearby fields. They will test the device for both its susceptibility to other fields as well as its emissions before giving it a proper approval.

Without a proper approval from an EMC test facility, an electronic device will not be allowed to be sold in many countries in the world. Imagine if your hard drive was not properly shielded and was receiving signals from your power supply or even the CR ROM. This would not be a good thing for your computer. Now just imagine an entire office filled with computers; without proper insulation, we would not have the internet as we know it today.

How Internet Fax Machines Will Save You Thousands

According to well researched fact most of the small scale business owners can save up to eighty-nine percent of the cash spent on the fax machines and utilities. Internet fax machines are not only fast, more efficient, high in quality but they also upgrade the privacy quotient.

With countless companies offering a plethora of internet fax machines one gets confused which to choose. So to clear the cloud of confusion, you must read on the following guidelines to be able to understand and choose the best option out there for your business.

- The first thing you need to make sure is to have an online account to access the faxes sent to you by emails. However, many times you cannot access your account due to being traveling or restrictions imposed by your service provider.

- Always check the costs column of the statements you receive. There could be some ambiguous costs incorporated that you might not be aware about. Most companies offer free services for a certain period of time but if you overdo the numbers of faxes to be sent or received by you, then you will end being charged for it. In the long run free offers like these prove to be more costly than other solutions like where you are charged a fixed fee for a predefined number of faxes to be sent or received. Even the failed faxes are charged.

- Last but not least, you must inquire about the format in which the service provider will send you the documents. Almost all the internet faxing service providers will send you the documents as a TIFF file. However, few individuals don't have the supporting software applications to view the documents. Thus, many users prefer the documents being delivered in various formats so that they can view them in their version of office tools installed on their computer.

The above stated tips will guide you to choose the right internet fax service provider for your specific needs.

Sure you can justify that price tag with arguments ranging from the highly advanced mechanical and animatronic mechanisms used in the construction of the toy, or the specially designed software, but in the end, the real reason that this electronic puppy is worth every penny of the FurReal Friends Biscuit My Lovin' Pup price is because it is the hands-down best substitute for a puppy without actually getting a real live puppy. It has the appearance and feel of every cute little puppy you've ever seen. One significant difference between Biscuit and other lesser electronic pets is that Biscuit is so lifelike, many people experience an emotional attachment to him after only a few minutes. Because the creators and developers of this electronic puppy have spent considerable amounts of time and effort, Biscuit is truly the best of his kind.

The FurReal Friends Biscuit My Lovin' Pup price soon fades into the back of your memory after a few minutes when you realize that this "puppy" looks, sounds, and feels very much like a real pet. When you see how happy and excited your children are with their new playmate, you'll realize that the price is very little to pay for this much happiness. Biscuit honestly has this profound effect on both children and adults. While it's easy to see how children would positively react to him, a surprising number of senior citizens have shown considerable interest in Biscuit as a companion to combat loneliness. While they have considered getting a live cat or dog, they decided against it because of the amount of care and handling that is required of such live animals. Biscuit, however, is very hassle-free but provides attention and even a level of companionship that any other inanimate object cannot provide, and that certainly makes the FurReal Friends Biscuit My Lovin' Pup price worth it. He is more than a toy, and he can easily become a member of any family, just like other pets that are actually living and breathing.

In fact, given the FurReal Friends Biscuit My Lovin' Pup price is only $199.99, Biscuit is a steal. Compared to other robots with comparable behavioral systems, Biscuit is as advanced and responsive, but at a fraction of the price. However, it's clear that the real reason people buy the FurReal Friends Biscuit My Lovin' Pup is not because he's a bargain. They pay the FurReal Friends Biscuit My Lovin' Pup price because they want a friend to keep around, or possibly a substitute for another pet who has long since passed away. Biscuit is not an outright replacement. Robots, no matter how realistic, may never be able to replace living, breathing organisms and how they make us feel. But Biscuit definitely comes close to challenging this notion. The way his eyes move, his tail wags, and the way he whimpers will easily make you forget that he's not alive. You'll find yourself thinking of him like you would any other puppy. If he has this effect on you, imagine how much your children will love him since they have even less of the inhibitions that adults have when it comes to who receives their love. Every child will absolutely adore this puppy. Even adults who at first were hesitant to interact with the electronic puppy soon find themselves talking to him, or caring for him like one a real live pet. It's simply incredible what this electronic toy will bring out in people.

Considering that video game consoles and other electronic equipment often times costs far more than the FurReal Friends Biscuit My Lovin' Pup price of $199.99, it's easy to see why this is a much better value. You are not only buying a new toy, you are brining a new friend home.

Information Management - The Big Picture

Given the explosive growth of electronic information in corporate America, managing electronic discovery is increasingly a challenge for corporate IT departments, in-house and outside counsel, each of whom are stakeholders. In December of 2006, the Judicial Conference of the US amended the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) to clarify the roles, responsibilities and discovery obligations of the various parties to litigation. The amendments, for the first time, made specific reference to electronically stored information, or ESI, as it is now commonly known. The changes in attitudes toward e-discovery are noticeable and the amendments have, without question, helped create an unprecedented level of dialog and collaboration to understand how electronic information is created, used, managed and disposed of in the corporate environment.

Why, then, have the amendments, intended to reduce confusion, also introduced a level of complexity to the e-discovery process that has left a lot of people scratching their heads?

For example, corporate counsel in a defense posture is keyed in on everything from creating corporate data maps to handling multiple and complex litigation holds, as well as establishing repeatable and defensible guidelines for discovery. What happens the following week when the storage administrator retires a key server and implements his data consolidation strategy? How good is the data map then?

Records retention managers have also been significantly affected. For years, they have been seen as silent corporate operatives who had murky roles and dealt with boxes of old documents. Today, nothing could be further from the truth. They are on the front lines of protecting an organization from a data management policy perspective.

Another role that has seen significant evolution is that of the "storage administrator." Corporate data storage administrators are IT personnel whose roles are largely characterized by their knowledge of an organization's data growth and proliferation patterns - key factors that allow them to make recommendations as to how, when and if an organization's data management hardware and associated software platforms need modification or change.

Another driver is the evolution of technology for e-discovery to serve both proactive and reactive use cases. The vast majority of matters today are addressed in a reactive fashion with a mind to quickly address pressing, active concerns that demand rapid retrieval of responsive ESI for early case assessments, meet and confer and other matter-specific requirements. However, the future is clear in that there is a need for consistent, repeatable and targeted e-discovery processes that can also be deployed across a company, creating an "e-discovery ready," proactive environment.

Therefore, the answer may lie in the fact that while the amendments impose obligations on the parties, they don't specifically state how one should go about fulfilling them. When it comes to corporations today, the old silo-based information management paradigms will not work when it comes to information discovery of any kind, for any reason. The bottom line is: litigation, storage management/data consolidation, records retention, regulatory responses, internal investigations, information security initiatives, personnel policy management, business intelligence, data mining, compliance and monitoring are all effectively subsets of what we call "e-discovery." This new paradigm of e-discovery subsumes many previously compartmentalized departmental initiatives that are under the auspices of legal, IT, records management, HR and finance. It is predicated on the degree to which an organization has information access and the ability to perform effective data classification. In short, companies should be able to leverage enterprise data for multiple business needs from a common underlying information access and classification platform.

List of definitions

CPOE = Computerized provider order entry
EHR = Electronic health record, repository of information regarding the health of a subject of care in computer processable form

Buying an Electronic Keyboard For Christmas

Buying an electronic keyboard for a Christmas present is not as difficult as you might think. You can pick up a good quality new keyboard for less than a hundred pounds and if you buy a used keyboard then you can reduce that figure to fifty pounds. These are not toy keyboards either; they are real, sixty-one note, high quality electronic keyboards.

If you are buying a keyboard for the first time then I recommend auction sites such as eBay were you are bound to find a bargain and you can also find brand new keyboards for sale, but don't just dive in, first you need to know what to buy.

So you are buying a keyboard for yourself or most probably for you children and many people will immediately look in catalogues and visit stores like Dixon's and Comet and surprisingly not music shops. So essentially, you are buying a keyboard blind. A keyboard is just a keyboard, if its got black and white keys that's all you need to know right, wrong, there is a little bit more to it than that and if you or your offspring want to learn to play then its worth checking out a few features that you will need.

Top Five Keyboard Buying Tips

Keyboard Size

Keyboard size is probably the most important, at a price range of a hundred pounds or less, you can buy forty-nine note, sixty-one note and if buying second hand seventy-six note keyboards. The most popular size is sixty-one note.

LCD Screens

Most modern keyboard today have a screen built in to the middle of the keyboard so you can see the operations of the keyboard, such as what sound or rhythm you are using or what notes you are playing, in fact all operation of the keyboard. Buy a keyboard with a big screen. Small screens can get very cluttered and its hard to see what's going on.

Speakers

Make sure your keyboard has built in speakers. Today's keyboards normally have two, one on the left and one on the right and built in to the keyboard so you don't have any trailing wires to bother about.

Auto Chord

If you are serious about learning to play the keyboard then check that your chosen keyboard has an auto chord feature. This is a system that will embellish the chords you play with your left hand by adding rhythmic background sounds including drums bass, brass, in fact a full orchestra, it is a fantastic invention and certainly helps the learning process.

Power Supply

Whatever keyboard you buy, get yourself a power supply to go with it. Don't rely on batteries, they won't last long and in the end, it will cost you a fortune. Power supplies are available for about ten to twenty pounds depending on which keyboard you opt for.

If you follow the above buying tips you should be able to get yourself a decent keyboard for a hundred pounds or less.

The Advantages of American Boarding Schools

Parents elect to send their children to American boarding schools for any number of reasons, but the most common reasons educational excellence and focus on the individual - are the most prominent assets of these programs. Whether you are interested in helping your child find the discipline theyve lost or simply want your child to be challenged and prepared for the finest universities in the country, American boarding schools are an excellent choice.

Curriculum

The curriculum at boarding schools is much more stringent and challenging than at public or even most private schools. As the students are able to dedicate more time to their studies without the distractions of home life, the expectations for these children is greater. Boarding schools, like many private schools, are not bogged down with governmental regulations and are able to teach much more than the states minimum curriculum. They are able to include many more electives and language courses that truly prepare and enrich these students.

College Readiness

Without the distraction of nonessential curriculum supplied by the state, American boarding schools are able to truly prepare students for college. The smaller class sizes and higher expectations of these institutions challenge these bright learners and instill all fundamentals required for excellence at the college level.

Discipline

Many boarding schools focus on reinstalling discipline and purpose in students who have fallen away from the behavioral norms and standards we, as a society, expect. In short, many American boarding schools offer behavior training and plans these students so desperately need. Many institutions have long records of success, and are able to work one-on-one with children no matter how severe the issue.

Peer Group

The most precise indicator of student achievement is actually found around the students. If you want your child to succeed, put them around other smart kids. Boarding schools are the perfect example of this, and in many cases, boarding schools go a bit farther and restrict student enrollment to a specific gender. Recent studies have shown that students do exceedingly well in single-sex environments, and boarding schools are one of the few opportunities to offer this asset to your child.

Teacher/Student Ratio

The final, and to some most significant, aspect of American boarding schools is the small number of students in each class. Teachers are able to connect with students and offer individualized attention. This relationship with professionals inspires these students, and as instructors at American boarding schools are some of the most highly trained in the industry, students benefit tremendously from their knowledge.

Online Fax Service - The Perfect Money Saver For Harsh Economic Times

Saving money in these harsh economic times should be a major objective of any company or individual. In these uncertain times, you want to keep your business expenses down to the bare minimum without sacrificing quality or service. Using an online fax service is definitely one of the best ways any business can save money if you're on a tight budget.

First, you must have a basic understanding of Internet Fax (which comes by many names: email fax, online fax, web fax, even electronic fax... ) and how it works. In a nutshell, Internet or Online Fax is simply using your email system and the Internet to send and receive your faxes. Your faxes are sent via email attachments, usually in PDF or TIFF format, although there are around 20 or 30 different file formats you can use.

Online faxing is using the web or an Internet connection to send and receive your faxes. To use Internet Fax you have to sign-up to an online fax service provider, where you will be given an online interface (site) where you can send and store your faxes. You will also receive a local or toll-free fax number which you can use. Keep in mind, this service acts as an intermediary and you can still send and receive faxes from ordinary fax machines.

How Does Using An Online Fax Service Save You Money?

1. No Fax Machine

There is no need for you to purchase a fax machine. You can do all your faxing through your computer, your email system and the Internet. Your printer can be used if you need a hard-copy of your faxes.

2. No Extra Phone Line

There is no need for a second phone line since everything is handled through your Internet access or connection. This can mean long-term savings for you or your company as your start-up costs will be much lower.

3. Paperless & Inkless Faxing

Internet fax is paperless faxing so you will save on the cost of paper and ink. Again, over the long haul, this can mean significant savings for you. That's why online fax is often referred to as the "green way to fax" -- as it is very environmentally friendly.

4. Custom Fax Services

You can pick the right online company and service to meet your company's needs. There are countless different plans and services; it won't be hard to find the right one to match your specific faxing needs. You can save money by choosing the service that best matches your requirements. Faxing services can run around $10 to $15 a month; but there are some as low as $4 a month so it pays to shop around before you buy.

5. No Start-Up Costs

Set-up costs are usually free and most online fax services will give you a free 30 day Trial of their service. This way you can test-run a particular fax service without risking anything.

6. Completely Scalable

Most of the major Internet Fax Services are completely scalable for businesses. You can tailor-order the correct fax service for your company. You can scale up and quickly add services as your business requires it -- saving you money and preventing any lost sales/customers.

7. Computer & Internet Based Service

Perhaps most of your savings will come from the fact that online faxing is just that: it's a web-based service. It's available wherever you have Internet access and these days that's just about anywhere on the planet. Internet Investigations?

Reasons why Internet Private Investigation is Taking Over the Online World -

Why are internet private investigation services important now? It is because more and more people are putting all their information on the Internet. People do not want to be left out of the modernization that is happening in the world today. So to become in tune with technology, they eagerly embraced the online world.

To be one with the online world, your information is needed so that it would be easy for other people to find you. Oftentimes, when conducting business online, you give out details that should have been kept private. When this happens, you are very much prone to those that can easily intercept all the information even before they reach the intended destination.

Before you know it, another person has gotten hold of your credit card and is using them for their own personal purpose. The worst thing that could happen is when your identity is stolen just because that person knows everything about you.

In answer to all these online crimes, Internet private investigation services opened their doors to counter wrong doers. These investigators have comprehensive knowledge about what people are capable of doing using the internet. Using every means of internet software and tools, they can track down illegal procedures immediately.

You can tell how effective these investigators are by the number of crimes and criminals that they have cornered on the internet. You may think that programs or other tools are the ones capturing these persons. What you may not know is that there are real people behind who is doing the job for you.

Most online businesses enlist the services of private investigators online to filter out the good from the bad. These businesses know that they are vulnerable to persons that want to take advantage of what they have. Since they cannot prevent people from accessing them online, the only way they can prevent unwanted things from happening is to have investigators check every detail about the online visitors.

One of the useful things that private investigators use in their internet service is computer forensics. This is not like the forensics that is being done physically.

Expert technicians are the persons capable of looking out at computers. They look at the sources of documents and data storage systems. They make sure that the systems remain clean of hackers or unwanted and suspicious entries.

It is also their duty to track down where unwanted entries are coming from. When they have carefully investigated all the details, they report their findings directly to their clients. It is during this time that the business is able to figure out ways on how to solve these problems, change their system and bring the intruder to justice.

Internet private investigators are not only limited to crimes that are going around the internet. They do simple things like recovering of files. They are trained well in this field also. Part of their job is to maintain the smooth sailing operation of the online business.

Those who venture into the internet private investigation business are people with comprehensive background about computers and the online world. Without any knowledge of these things, they are not really qualified for this kind of job.

So the next time you feel that someone or something is posing a threat on your online business, do not call the FBI. Get the services of internet private investigation because they reign supreme in this kind of business.

Future of Baby Boomer Health Care

A recent study shows that the aging of baby boomers will do more than merely increase the number of patients - it also will reduce the number of doctors and nurses available to care for them.

Nearly 13% of registered nurses in the U.S. will reach retirement age in five years, says a report by the Center for Health Workforce Studies at the State University of New York [SUNY] at Albany. Almost 44% will turn 65 by 2020.

Half of the country's advanced practice nurses - those with enough training to prescribe drugs, work as anesthetists and deliver babies - will reach retirement age within 15 years. Despite an increase in newly licensed advance practice nurses, supply won't meet demand.

Faced with these trends, the government, health insurers and businesses are testing out possible solutions in a range of areas: electronic medical record systems, new monitoring devices for the home and medical practice redesign.

Health insurance giant Kaiser Permanente recently launched a program that aims to teach its 12,000 doctors how to use an electronic medical records system to streamline their practices.

While the price of these electronic systems is coming down for doctors in small practices, the federal government also is helping.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services [CMS] is funding a program that uses contractors nationwide to help 4,000 doctors set up electronic medical records and practice more efficiently.

Aging boomers will bring more cases of chronic illness - a potential growth market when you consider the shortage of medical help.

Just as baby boomers are aging and starting to consume a disproportionate share of health services, many doctors and nurses themselves are boomers and are retiring and working fewer hours!

Doctors are more likely to be 55, or older than the U.S. work force as a whole. And older doctors work fewer hours than younger ones. About 30% of doctors are over 54 today, vs. 14% of the overall work force.

It takes a long time to educate and train a physician. So you're not going to see a lot of younger physicians turning up. Physicians are generally older than average. Half of physicians are 45 and older; in the civilian labor force, only 37% are over 45. In addition, the number of new geriatricians is declining.

What are you to do. Try Alternative Health Care. Thats when you as an individual take a greater role and interest in your health. Thus, eliminating the expensive cost of health care, time needed to see a doctor and the overall problem of even getting sick.

IPod Game Downloads - What IPod Games Are Worth Downloading?

While the sites for iPod game downloads may vary in features, their selection of games will remain somewhat similar. Here are a few reviews of iPod-compatible games that you can find and download on the Internet.

Bejeweled

Very similar to a classic game Columns, where you have to match falling down blocks, Bejeweled is simple, without much of special effects, and makes a decent time-waster. If you are a beginner in games, you may find it quite entertaining, but for a sophisticated gamer, who looks for rich graphics and fast pace, such iPod game download would be nothing to write home about.

Mini Golf

Another simple in design and use iPod game. If you are a golf fanatic, you might find it a nice entertainer. Otherwise, it is no way more advanced than your average cell phone game, and does not really utilize the iPod's capabilities. Get it if you have an access to bulk iPod game downloads at a single membership price, because buying it from iTunes for a seemingly low price of $5 would mean overpaying in any way.

Zuma

Like Bejeweled, Zuma is a simple point-and-match game with little diversity and visual effects. A brain stimulator, the color matching game might be loved by occasional players, but most of game fanatics will give it little attention, probably, because the idea has been already exploited for so many times.

Texas Hold 'em

If you love playing card games, this iPod game download is a must for you. Texas Hold 'em is a kind of poker that you play with virtual opponents. In spite of minor flaws in technical aspects, the game is exciting and totally absorbing.

Vortex

Fun and fast-paced, Vortex is one of the best iPod games. It is an upgraded and slightly modified version of the famous Breakout, where you cast down bricks into a rotating cylinder. Packed with bonuses and extra options, the game was designed for iPod's click wheel that makes it very convenient to play.

Mahjong

The concentration and attention training game matches tiles/cards with numbers, pictures and Chinese characters on them. Nothing complicated, the game can be extremely addicting for those who prefer brain-twisting slow games over fast paced ones. Classic Chinese design, charming audio effects and multiple gaming variants are among the many benefits of the game, which you must have on your iPod.

What is EMarketing? A New Discipline is Evolving

Before trying to define the term of eMarketing (or electronic marketing, so to speak), we should first take a look at the premises of its apparition and development.

The theories concerning eMarketing have not been unified yet, due to a large diversity in specialists' opinions. Still, one of the aspects that is established and has ceased being discussed in contradictory, is the fact that electronic marketing first appeared under the form of various techniques used by companies distributing their products through online channels (Internet based). That happened back in the pioneering age before 1995. These companies that opened the road were called "e-tailers", as opposed to the traditional retailers (also known as "brick-and-mortar" retailers). During their limited life, these electronic retailers began to develop and frenetically introduced new marketing techniques based on the support offered by the internet.

The online technologies mentioned above developed in the context created by the e-tailers, they are widely used these days by B2C and B2B organizations. In other words, they evolved towards what we call now eMarketing (you can also spell it e-Marketing if you wish, the "e-" stands in both cases for "electronic").

You might find as extremely useful and suggestive the perspective offered by the eMarketing Association (eMA). You heard a lot, especially over the past 2 years, about the decline of online businesses (or the decline of dotcoms), but this temporary difficulty can be viewed as a similarity to the impasse of Columbus during his expedition that made him famous more than half millennium ago. The initial "business plan" with which Columbus started this trip (that of bringing the Asian resources in his country and getting fabulously rich) was a complete disaster: catastrophic estimations, not enough resources allocated, total lack of information upon the environment he will develop his "business" in, but... he discovered America instead and changed the world for ever. In a similar manner, we can say that the dotcoms, despite their terrible strategies (if any), "discovered" by mistake the world of eMarketing.

As we already noticed, defining eMarketing is still highly problematic. Still, what do we mean when we use this term? As many other English words, the term was born by adding the prefix "e-" to a term already known and used, in this case "marketing". The prefix "e-" is actually the extreme contraction of the word "electronic" and is quite omnipresent in todays language of many people: "e-marketing", "e-business", "e-mail", "e-learning", "e-commerce", "e-", "e-", "e-"...

The simplest definition of eMarketing could be that suggested by Mark Sceats: the eMarketing that uses internet as manifestation channel.

A more comprehensive, practical definition is the one formulated by specialists of CISCO company: eMarketing is a generic term utilized for a wide range of activities advertising, customer communications, branding, fidelity programs etc. using the internet. More than the simple development of a website, the eMarketing focuses on online communications, direct dialog with consumers who thus participate to the creation of new products, finding efficient methods to win customer's fidelity and ease their business-making process. eMarketing is the sum of activities a company makes with the purpose of finding, attracting, winning and retaining customers.

At last, for those of you interested in a more scientific approach, we could say that eMarketing allows relational exchanges in digital, networked and interactive environments (acronym: DNI environments). Earlier in the history of eMarketing, it was conceptualized as being focused upon the exchanges, but today's theoreticians suggest the exchange paradigm is a limited modality to define eMarketing.

Whichever definition you will choose to use, will depend on where exactly you need to use it and for what purpose. You can probably formulate a definition yourself, according to your own knowledge, experience and view upon what is eMarketing.

However, one conclusion needs to be drawn in connection with eMarketing: it has developed over the past few years into a standalone discipline, with its own conceptual apparatus, tools and laws, but with a still-to-be systematized knowledge.
