Looking For an LCD TV?

LCD TVs are getting bigger and cheaper all the time, perhaps this is why you are considering upgrading your tired CRT television to a new large screen HD LCD Television.

Here are 10 things to look for when choosing an LCD television:

1. Look for a reputable brand. You may be able to get a bigger screen size for the same or less money, but sticking to a smaller TV by a reputable brand will usually provide a better picture, more features and so make the TV better value.

2. Don't just buy the brand you are familiar with. Just because all your other AV equipment is from one manufacturer, it doesn't mean it is the best for your requirements. You wouldn't necessarily buy a large executive car or a sporty convertible from a company better known for small city cars.

3. Your LCD TV needs to have the features you need now, such as DVD, Freeview / Satellite and games consoles connections. Having the right number of connections will mean that you don't have to keep unplugging the DVD player to play on the games console.

4. You'll need to ensure that the LCD TV you decide on has the features you will need in the future. Additional inputs, FreeSat, HD compatibility (either HD ready, or full HD) and digital TV compatibility are factors that need to be considered.

5. How much experience has the dealer got with LCD Televisions? If they usually sell other items, or non-electrical goods, are they able to answer your questions and queries satisfactorily?

6. Don't choose the biggest LCD Television you can afford. It might well be overpowering in your room, and become the focal point of the room. The TV shouldn't be too small either. There is no point in choosing an LCD TV that is smaller than your existing TV.

7. Consider whereabouts in the room your new LCD TV will be. Will it be in the corner where the CRT TV was? Will it be mounted on the wall using LCD TV Wall Brackets? Will it be on a clever bracket that folds and keeps the TV out of the way when it is not in use?

8. Don't compromise on accessories. Specialist cables do make a difference. Speaker stands do improve the sound, and a wall bracket can put your TV at the right height so you can watch it comfortably. You wouldn't drink vintage wine out of a polystyrene cup, so why compromise when it comes to your TV? Reckon on spending around 5-10% of your budget on accessories such as cables and stands.

9. For the space conscious, look for an LCD Television that offers additional features such as a built in Hard Disk Drive recorder, DVD player, or Freeview, or memory card reader for photographs and videos. It may cost a bit more, but will reduce the number of boxes under the TV, and so make the room look less cluttered, which will help to make it look bigger.

10. Consider improving, or making the most of your existing home cinema system. You won't want to watch breathtaking nature programs, or fast paced action movies in glorious high definition with lesser sound. Programmes and films can be made much more realistic with sound that fills the room to make you feel like you are there.
